Derek Reddy Named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Fifth weekly CSFL award for the Ravens this season

RINDGE, N.H. (October 25, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University sprint football standout Derek Reddy (Natick, Mass.) earlier this week was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Special Teams Player of the Week for his impressive performance punting in last Saturday’s 27-24 overtime win over Mansfield.

Reddy, a junior who also doubles as a defensive back, punted five times against Mansfield, and averaged 35.2 yards per boot. He blasted a long of 49 yards, and had one downed inside the 20-yard line.

Reddy wasn’t just visible in the special teams game, but also defensively by logging three tackles, making his league-leading fourth interception, and forcing a fumble midway through the fourth quarter that led to a Franklin Pierce touchdown.

It marked the first weekly CSFL award for Reddy this season, and the fifth such honor for the program in 2013. Sophomore running back D.J. MacDonald (Mattapoisett, Mass.) won a pair of offensive awards earlier this season, while freshman quarterback Ryan O’Kelly (West Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore defensive back Mike Abrams (Newark, N.J.) earned offensive and special teams accolades the previous week.

Franklin Pierce (4-2) is riding a three-game winning streak into Saturday’s 2013 season finale, as the Ravens play host to Post University at 12 p.m. on Arthur Hurd Field at Oakmont Regional H.S. in Ashburnham, Mass. The game will be the battle for the Talon Cup, which is awarded annually to the winner of the rivalry series. Franklin Pierce and Post are the only two schools based in New England in the CSFL.
