D.J. MacDonald Named CSFL Offensive Player of the Week

First weekly award in program history

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University sophomore running back D.J. MacDonald (Mattapoisett, Mass.) became the first player in sprint football program history on Tuesday to earn a weekly award from the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL), when he was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for his impressive performance in Saturday’s 13-6 win over Cornell in the 2013 Allegiance Bowl.

MacDonald churned out 122 yards rushing and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Ravens. The victory enabled Franklin Pierce to claim the bowl championship, which was the first title in the program’s young history.

MacDonald also played a major role in Franklin Pierce’s first touchdown drive of the game late in the first half, as he ripped off a 22-yard run to keep the series moving that was ultimately capped off with a touchdown pass from Ryan O’Kelly (West Warwick, R.I.) to Jahlil Dean (Maple Shade, N.J.) to put the Ravens up 7-3 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Franklin Pierce (1-1) opens its 2013 home schedule on Saturday when the Ravens play host to defending CSFL champion Army (2-0). Kickoff is set for 12 p.m., and the contest will be held on Arthur Hurd Field at Oakmont Regional H.S. in Ashburnham, Mass.
