Sprint Football Struggles in Second Half in Falling 32-14 at Mansfield

James Willette logs 13 tackles for the Ravens

BOXSCORE

MANSFIELD, Pa. (October 27, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University sprint football team watched as Mansfield scored 25 unanswered points in the second half to pull out a 32-14 win on Saturday at Van Norman Field in Mansfield, Pa. The Ravens fell to 1-3, while the Mounties improved to 2-4.

The Ravens took a 14-7 lead a little less than two minutes into the third quarter as freshman running back D.J. MacDonald (Mattapoisett, Mass.) scored on a three-yard touchdown run -- his second score of the game.

However, Mansfield answered on the ensuing possession as Ben Pepper connected with Casey Huff on a 36-yard touchdown pass to knot the score at 14-all.

That TD sparked Mansfield, which then scored late in the quarter to take a 20-14 lead.
Pepper threw another touchdown pass to Huff early in the fourth quarter and Anthony Colon returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown with 9:09 left to put the game out reach for the Mounties.

MacDonald paced Franklin Pierce's offense with 80 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. He also added 24 yards receiving for 104 yards of total offense. MacDonald opened the scoring in the game with a 23-yard touchdown run with 2:09 left in the first quarter.

Mansfield countered with a Jeremy Estremera one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to tie it at 7-7. Estremera rushed for 113 yards, while Pepper completed 23-of-36 passes for 267 yards.

Both teams combined for 11 interceptions in the game as Mansfield intercepted seven Ravens passes, while Franklin Pierce notched four picks of its own. Sophomore defensive back Derek Reddy (Natick, Mass.) made two picks for the Ravens, while also totaling nine tackles (8 solo) and broke up a pair of passes.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next Saturday when the Ravens close out their inaugural season with a 4 p.m. kickoff versus Post at Arthur Hurd Field in Ashburnham, Mass.
