Ravens Roll Over Chargers in Sweep

West Haven, Conn. (4/27/25) - The Franklin Pierce Softball team swept the New Haven Chargers in a two-game doubleheader on Sunday, creeping them up the NE10 standings.

Game 1 – Franklin Pierce 14, UNH 2
Game 2 – Franklin Pierce 7, UNH 1
Records: Franklin Pierce 22-18 (11-9 NE10), UNH 11-33 (4-16 NE10)

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chargers struck first in the opening frame with Brianna Trueman getting an RBI knock followed by an Emily Ricci single later in the inning to score Trueman. Though, that was all the Chargers had for game 1.

Bella Williams (Pheonix, Ariz.) starts the scoring in the third inning for the Ravens as she hits an RBI double and then comes around to score on an error to tie it at 2.

In the fourth inning, the Ravens got out in front for good. Kaylee Fraund (Murietta, Calif.) takes advantage of the runners in scoring position after an error and hit a sacrifice fly. Haley Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) and Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, NY) added to the lead in the fifth inning with RBI hits.

The 7th inning was all about the Ravens as they put the game away for good and had the petal to the metal with runs. Amy Jones (San Diego) was a key contributor in that inning where she stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a bases-clearing triple.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

The Ravens out-hit the Chargers 16-5 in the game and it was the Chargers mistakes that cost them.

They gave up 3 errors in the game, which set up the Ravens to tie it and eventually take the lead.

Brooke Koehler (Surprise, Ariz.) had a stellar outing. She nearly pitched a complete game shutout after she came in for relief in the first inning. She only walked 1 with 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED

It was the Chargers again who got out to an early lead in the ball game. Ricci gives them a 1-0 lead with an RBI double.

In the second inning, the Ravens bounced back with thunder. Taylor Ellis (Crandall, Texas) got the Rally started with a 2-run homer, giving the Ravens a 2-1 lead. Hartensein also contributed to the same inning with an RBI single.

After additions in the third inning from Danielle Belliveau (Baldwinville, Mass.) and one more in the 7th inning from Williams, the Ravens pitching staff had Chargers in Shambles.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

The Ravens out-hit the Chargers 11-6 in the game.

The Owls continued to make mistakes as they collected the only 2 errors of the game.

Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, ME) grabbed her third win in a row, pitching 5 innings in game two, only giving up 2 walks and one run.
UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens concluded their regular season and are now set to face the Bentley Falcons in the NE10 Championship First Round on Tuesday, April 29th. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
