Ravens Rally for Road Split at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Franklin Pierce softball earned a doubleheader split on the road Friday afternoon, battling Saint Anselm in a pair of tightly contested NE10 matchups. The Ravens fell in extra innings in game one, 7-6, before bouncing back in the nightcap with a strong all-around effort to secure a 3-1 victory.

Game 1: Saint Anselm 7, Franklin Pierce 6 (8 inn.)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Ravens start strong when serving up the bases loaded in the first inning for Kaylee Fraund (Murietta, Calif.) who walks to score a run. Zoey Galindo (Lakewood Calif.) follows with a single to drive in two runs for the Ravens to be up 3-0.
  • Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) keeps the Ravens going in the 3rd by homering to center, giving the Ravens a four-run lead.
  • The Hawks answer in the 5th as Audrey Arsenault delivers a bases clearing triple to get the game within one run.
  • Galindo hits an RBI single followed by a Haley Bigwood RBI in the 6th to give the Ravens insurance as it was 6-3.
  • The lead was not held too much longer by the Ravens due to a late rally from the Hawks, capped off by a walk off hit from Alyssa Wironen.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Hawks out hit the Ravens 10-9.
  • The Ravens had one mistake in the field.
  • Sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched 5 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 earned run, and walked 4 batters.

Game 2: Franklin Pierce 3, Saint Anselm 1

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • In the second inning, the Ravens break through with an RBI double to right from Fraund. 
  • Hartenstein continued her solid day at the plate as she hit her second home run of the doubleheader in the 3rd, giving the ravens a 3-0 as that was all they needed. 
  • Despite efforts from Arsenault, driving in a run early in the game, the Hawks were unable to get at Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) and Brooke Koehler (Surprise, Ariz) who were sensational in the circle for the Ravens. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

 
  • Hartenstein finished the day with two home runs and three RBI.
  • The Hawks outhit the Ravens 5-3. 
  • The Ravens committed 1 error. 
  • Sophomore pitcher Gilbert started in the circle for the Ravens and pitched 3 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run, and walking 2 batters. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will head home for Sunday's doubleheader against SNHU as the Penmen will have to face the Raven crowd during their ABA game. First pitch for game 1 is slated for 12:00.
