Ravens Swept at Pace in Doubleheader

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (3/30/2025) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens softball team couldn't contain the Pace University Setters on Sunday afternoon, getting swept in the doubleheader in Northeast-10 conference action. They were shutout 7-0 in Game 1 but battled in Game 2 and fell short 4-2. The second game was highlighted by a 2-run homer from Anna Erikson (Temecula, Calif.).

Game 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Setters opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning as Riley Jenkins ripped an RBI single through the left side to make it 1-0 Setters.
  • Pace then tacked onto their lead in the top of the 2nd. Katerina Luna hit an RBI single up the middle to give them the 2-0 lead.
  • The steady offense continued for the Setters as Brianna Shea laced an RBI single up the middle to pad their lead to 3-0 in the top of the 3rd inning.
  • The Setters broke the game open in the top of the 5th inning. Raelle Gorman roped a 2-run double to left field to give them the comfortable 5-0 lead.
  • Pace then added 2 more runs with an RBI walk and a sacrifice fly to solidify the 7-0 shutout win in the first game of the twin bill.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Setters outhit the Ravens 7-4.
  • Each team committed one error.
  • Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched 3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, and walking 3 batters.
  • Junior pitcher Brooke Koehler (Surprise, Ariz.) came in relief and pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 earned runs, walking 3 batters, and recording a punchout.

Game 2:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • It took until the top of the 3rd inning for the Setters to break the scoreless tie. Riley Jenkins belted a solo homer to left field to make it 1-0. Then in the top of the 4th inning, Lauren D'Orazio clobbered a solo homer to left field, giving the Setters the 2-0 lead.
  • The Ravens clawed back in the bottom of the 5th inning. Senior first baseman Anna Erikson (Temecula, Calif.) crushed a 2-run homer down the left field to tie the game at 2-2.
  • However, the momentum was short lived. The Setters regained the lead in the top of the 7th inning. Kaylee Matsuda drove an RBI single up the middle to go ahead 3-2. The Setters also tacked on an insurance run on a ground out to notch the 4-2 win and the series sweep over the Ravens.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Setters outhit the Ravens 7-1.
  • The Ravens committed 2 errors; the Setters committed 1.
  • Sophomore pitcher Kennedy Morris (Stafford, Conn.) started in the circle for the Ravens and pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs and 2 earned, walking 3 batters, allowing 2 home runs, and striking out 8 batters.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will battle their inter-state rival Saint Anselm in Manchester on Friday (4/4). First pitch for Game 1 of the doubleheader is at 2 p.m. Game 2 is at 4 p.m.
