Ravens Sweep Adelphi in NE-10 Opener

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (3/29/2025) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens softball team started their Northeast-10 campaign with a bang on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Adelphi University Panthers in a double header.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It took until the bottom of the 3rd inning for the Ravens to break through. Freshman right fielder Zoey Galindo (Lakewood, Calif.) ripped a single to center field to score senior left fielder (Temecula, Calif.) and put the Ravens up 1-0. The Ravens offense continued to fire. Sophomore catcher Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) roped a triple to left field to score Zoey Galindo and senior center fielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) and give the Ravens the 3-0 lead. The Ravens capped off the inning with another run as freshman third baseman Kaylee Fraund (Murietta, Calif.) lifted a single to center field to score Charlit Hartenstein, making it 4-0 Ravens.
- The momentum carried over into the bottom of the 4th inning for the Ravens. Zoey Galindo added another RBI single to her name to score senior shortstop Haley Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) and give them the 5-0 lead.
- The Panthers cut into the deficit in the top of the 5th inning. Brianna Pearson hit a single to center field to make it 5-1 Ravens. The late rally wasn't enough, and the Ravens held on for the 5-1 victory in the first game of the twin bill.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Ravens outhit the Panthers 7-3.
- The Panthers committed one error compared to none from the Ravens.
- Junior pitcher Brooke Koehler (Surprise, Ariz.) started in the circle for the Ravens and pitched 4 and two thirds' innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, walking 4 batters, and striking out 2 batters.
- Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) pitched 2 and a thirds' innings, allowing 1 hit and no earned runs, earning the save for the Ravens.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just like Game 1, the Ravens took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. It started with freshman designated player Taylor Ellis (Crandall, Texas) drawing a walk, then junior designated player Savannah Arreguin (Pacoima, Calif.) pinch ran for her. Senior second baseman Lita Vorseth (Mesa, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. Then, she stole second and Savannah Arreguin stole third, scoring on an error by the catcher to make it 1-0 Ravens. Later in the inning, Zoey Galindo reached first on an error by the shortstop, scoring both junior center fielder Andie Anderson (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman second baseman Danielle Belliveau (Baldwinville, Mass.), giving them the 3-0 lead.
- The Ravens tacked onto their lead in the bottom of the 5th. Savannah Arreguin scored on an error by the second baseman to give them the comfortable 4-0 lead.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Ravens outhit the Panthers 4-3.
- The Ravens committed 1 error compared to 4 from the Panthers.
- Sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) earned the win in the circle for the Ravens. She pitched a complete game shutout, allowing 3 hits, no walks, and striking out 9 batters.
NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens stay in New York for the weekend as they'll travel to Pleasantville to take on the Pace Setters. Game 1 is at 12 p.m. and Game 2 is at 2 p.m.
