RINDGE, N.H. (4/7/24) -- After multiple time changes and rescheduling, the Ravens were able to play on Sunday against SHNU but were swept in the double header, 7-6 and 1-0.

GAME 1: Score: Franklin Pierce 6, SNHU 7
Records: Franklin Pierce (12-7, 3-2 NE10), Bentley (10-11, 1-2 NE10)
Location: Bisaccia Field, Rindge, N.H.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With the rescheduling, the Ravens were considered the away team for both games even though they played on home turf. With that, the Ravens got on the board early in the top of the first. After a leadoff double by senior Hailey Bigwood (Athol, Mass.), junior Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) roped a ball up the middle of the infield scoring Bigwood giving the Ravens an early 1-0 lead.
  • With two outs in the third, Williams again singled up the middle giving a chance for senior Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) who capitalized hitting a towering triple off the top of the fence in left field driving in Williams and making it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • The Penman threatened in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and took advantage of a fielding error by Cangiano which scored two runs for the Penman tying the game up at 2-2. With two outs on the board, Ari Ferrier hit at triple and cleared the bases to give the Penman the 5-2 lead.
  • The Ravens rallied in the fifth, as they loaded the bases for Bella Williams who was hit by a pitch to bring in a run which cut the lead to 5-3. Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) then hit a clutch single up the middle scoring Andie Anderson (Phoenix, Ariz.), putting the Ravens down by one run 5-4. Susan Campos (Lemoore, Cali.) then came up with a pinch-hit opportunity and seized the moment by singling to left field which brought in the tying and go-ahead runs and put the Ravens in the driver's seat, 6-5.
  • The Penman struck in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Shannon Gifford double that brought in two runs to take back the 7-6 Penman lead. The Penman would shut down the Ravens and hold on for the game one win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Sabrina Gonzalez (L, 5-2) gets credit for the loss after pitching 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 7 runs, none earned, with 2 strikeouts. Georgia Clough would relieve Gonzalez for a clean inning. Leine McKechnie (W, 4-4) gets the win for the Penman after also pitching 5 innings allowing 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 8 batters.
  • The Ravens tallied 9 hits to the Penman 5.
  • The Ravens left 4 runners on base to the Penman 2 runners.
  • The Ravens had 3 errors to the Penman 0.

GAME TWO
The Ravens looked to bounce back in game two but were shut down by Penman pitching as they could only muster three hits and no runs.

Score: Franklin Pierce 0, SNHU 1
Records: Franklin Pierce (12-8, 3-3 NE10), SNHU (11-11, 2-2 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Penman and Ravens were deadlocked in a pitcher's dual with Samantha Sylvester (Morris, Conn.) and Julianna Colbert shutting the door on the batters they faced with no runs crossing the plate. That was until the fifth when the Penman scored the only run of the game when Grace Jenkins scored on a Raven error that gave the Penman the win and the sweep.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Samantha Sylvester pitched the entire 6 innings for the Ravens allowing 4 hits and one run which was unearned, while walking 2 batters and striking out 2 in the loss. Julianna Colbert went all the way for the Penman pitching 7 innings of three hit ball, allowing no runs and striking out 6.
  • The Ravens had 3 hits to the Penman 4.
  • The Ravens left 4 runners on base while the Penman left 5 runners on base.
  • Each team committed 1 error.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens stay home as they host the Saint Michael's Purple Knights Tuesday, April 9th for a doubleheader with the first game starting at 3 pm.
