Softball: Ravens Earn Fifth Win of the Season in 4-3 Victory Over Mercy

MELBOURNE, F.L (3/10/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce softball team picked up their fifth win of the season Sunday morning after the Ravens took down the Mavericks of Mercy College, 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Ravens got on the board first in the bottom of the second when senior infielder Haley Bigwood (Athol, MA) scored on a passed ball. In the top of the third, junior outfielder Bella Williams (Mesa, AZ) had an RBI single, scoring senior infielder Molly Magnette (Ayer, MA) to make it 2-0 Franklin Pierce. Junior first basemen Ana Erikson (Temecula, CA) scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.
• Mercy scored three unanswered runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Sophomore third baseman Elizabeth Stark had an RBI single, scoring junior infielder Maddie Lula to cut the Ravens lead to two. Later in the inning, senior outfielder Shannon Sisco reached first base on a throwing error. Stark and graduate first baseman Samantha Franck scored to tie it at three a-piece.
• In the bottom of the sixth, Franklin Pierce regained the lead on an RBI single by senior third baseman Susannah Campos (Lemoore, CA), scoring sophomore outfielder Amy Jones (San Diego, CA). The Ravens held on in the top of the seventh for the 4-3 win as Mercy went down 1-2-3.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Senior pitcher Samantha Sylvester (Morris, CT) got the start for Franklin Pierce and pitched 5.1 innings. She gave up three hits, one run, two walks, and struck out three batters. Freshman pitcher Kennedy Morris (Stafford, CT) came in relief to close out the game and captured her second win of the season as she gave up no hits.
• Franklin Pierce outhit Mercy 4-3.
• Mercy had two errors, and the Ravens had seven stolen bases.  

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:
• Franklin Pierce plays Molloy later Sunday at Blue Rawlings Field. The first pitch is at 12:15 p.m., and it is the final game of the Florida trip for the Ravens.
