Sylvester Crowned NE10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. (3/13/23) – For the first time in her collegiate career, junior pitcher Samantha Sylvester (Morris, Conn.) was named the Northeast-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week, per the official announcement by the league offices on Monday afternoon.

This season, Sylvester currently holds a team leading 1.38 earned run average through six appearances, and holds a 3-0 record with one save.

The weekly honor comes after a busy 7-1 week for Pierce softball, combining both competition from within the region with their recent trip down to Florida. Through that span, Sylvester entered only in relief, but was hard to hit against during her time in the circle. From this past week, Sylvester made three appearances in the circle, and pitched eight full innings of scoreless relief work with only five hits allowed, earning both a win and a save. The Raven junior also tossed 10 total strikeouts, walked only three batters, and combined for an 8.75 strikeouts per seven innings average. From a fielding standpoint, Sylvester also contributed two putouts.

With just one day left in the Sunshine State, Softball will return to the field for two matchups on Tuesday, beginning with the University of Illinois-Springfield at 3:45 p.m., and finishing against Bloomfield College at 6:00 p.m.
