EASTON, Mass. (April 24, 2021) - The Franklin Pierce University softball team made it five wins in a row on Saturday afternoon, as the Ravens swept a doubleheader on the road against Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill. In the first game, graduate student Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run, and drove in five, as the Ravens posted a 7-1 victory. The second game went only five innings, as Killebrew and senior Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) went deep in a 12-1 Franklin Pierce win.

With the sweep, Franklin Pierce improves to 14-6 (13-5 NE10), while Stonehill falls to 5-17 (4-14 NE10). The two teams will meet again at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Stonehill to wrap up the four-game series.

Game 1: Franklin Pierce 7, Stonehill 1

Stonehill struck first with an RBI single by freshman Alexandra Hammond in the second inning. The Ravens quickly answered with a three-run home run by Killebrew in the top of the third, her second of the season.

The fourth and fifth innings were quiet, before the Ravens took control of the game in the sixth. Sophomore Melissa Konopinski (Butler, N.J.) singled home a run, followed by an RBI double from junior Maiah Lopez (Oxnard Calif.). Just two batters later, Killebrew would knock a double into left field, which drove home two more runs to bring her total to five RBIs in the game. She would drive in seven runs over the course of the doubleheader.

Freshman right-hander Samantha Sylvester (Morris, Conn.) earned her third victory in the circle (3-0) with a strong performance, as she allowed just one run on three hits in five innings of work. She walked two and struck out one.

Sophomore right-hander Molly Adamo (1-5) threw the first three innings and suffered the loss for Stonehill. She allowed three runs on four hits, walked one and struck out two.

Game 2: Franklin Pierce 12, Stonehill 1

Following a strong start to the day, the Ravens blitzed the Skyhawks in the second game. They got things started right away, as Hinckley socked a two-run homer from the cleanup spot in the top of the first.

The Ravens put the Skyhawks on the back foot in the second inning, as they tallied six runs to take an 8-0 lead. Konopinski doubled a run home, followed by a two-run single by junior Allie Martinez (Upland, Calif.) two batters later. The very next at bat, Killebrew hit her second home run of the day, this one a two-run shot. Sophomore Hailey Melchert (Lake Orion, Mich.) knocked in the sixth and final run of the inning, as she singled home Hinckley.

Three more in the third and one in the fourth ballooned the lead out to 12-0. In the third, Konopinski singled home a pair and Lopez doubled home another. In the fourth, sophomore Ari Rodriguez (Clinton, Mass.) clubbed an RBI double. Stonehill picked up a run in the last of the fourth, courtesy of an RBI single from senior Genna Hartman, but it was not enough to avoid the eight-run rule, as the Ravens took the 12-1 victory.

Graduate student left-hander Amelia Mamone (Averill Park, N.Y.) went the distance in the circle in the second game for the Ravens. Over five innings, she allowed just one unearned run on five hits, did not issue a walk and struck out three to pick up the win (3-1).

Sophomore right-hander Jadyn Lee (0-4) lasted just 1.2 innings for Stonehill on the other side of the ledger. She surrendered seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
