Bianco Blasts Bomb As Ravens Swept In Season Series By Hawks

RINDGE, N.H. (April 12, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University designated player Aubrey Bianco (Marlboro, N.Y.) smoked her first round tripper of the season as the Ravens softball team were swept in the season series on Wednesday night by Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College 7-1. With the win, the Hawks sky to 6-9 overall and remain undefeated in league play while the Ravens are still looking for their first victory of the campaign.

Bianco was one of five Raven players to record a hit in the game. She came on in relief of starting southpaw Amelia Mamone (Wynantskill, N.Y.) and hurled five innings allowing only three runs – two earned on 10 hits while striking out one batter.

The Hawks number eight and nine hitters Ellie Parravano and Erin Thompson combined to go 6-for-6 in the game with a double, a homer, four runs scored, and five RBI. Parravano and Thompson were responsible for five of the seven Saint Anselm runs.

Sam Hennequin started for the Hawks and pitched a complete game five hitter while putting eight batters down by way of the k.

Mamone began the top of the first by retiring the first two batters on a ground out and a strike out looking. Michaela Kane kept the inning alive by stroking a single down the left field line. Megan Murrell reached via an error by the Raven second basemen, but Mamone buckled down and induced a weak pop out to short to conclude the inning. Hennequin took the circle for the bottom half of the first and made quick work of the Ravens by punching out the side in order.

Shannon McLaughin smoked a line drive double into the left field gap as the first batter in the top of the second. Leiandra Wilson looped a single into right field to put runners at the corners with no outs. Wilson stole second base and was promptly driven in as Parravano recorded her first hit of the year, a two run double into the left center gap. Thompson ended Mamone's day in the circle by belting a two run shot to straight away center to push the Hawks ahead 4-0.

Hennequin's strikeout streak continued into to second stanza, but stopped once Bianco ripped a homer to center field on a 0-1 offering for the first and only run of the game for the Crimson and Grey.

McLaughlin slapped an opposite field single through the right side. Bianco then got Wilson to ground into the old fashioned 1-6-3 double play for a quick two outs. The next two Hawk batters reached via singles then Bianco fielded a grounder back to the mound and threw to first to wrap up the top of the third.

Action picked up during the top of the fourth as the Hawks loaded the bases full with two down, but Bianco tight-roped out of danger by fielding a weak grounder and making the throw to first for the third and final out.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, O'Connor blooped a single just over the second basemen's head to plate one run and increase the Hawk advantage to 5-1.

In the top half of the sixth, Saint A's scored two runs with singles before senior centerfielder Cassidy Sorenson (Billerica, Mass.) flashed the leather to end the top of the sixth with a sliding snow cone grab in right center. The Ravens got something going in the bottom half of the sixth as they recorded three straight singles to load the bases with one out. Ashley Deyo (Dover, N.H.) stepped to the plate looking to do some damage. Deyo lined out to short, but the runner on third left the base early and was doubled off for the inning ending double play.

The Ravens remain in Rindge on Friday for a single game versus NE10 opponent Bentley with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
