Rowing V2x Boat Finishes Third At Wormtown Chase Regatta

WORCESTER, MASS. (10/29/22) – Four separate boats hit the water for Franklin Pierce rowing at the Wormtown Chase Regatta in Worcester, Massachusetts held at Quinsigamond State Park. For the Ravens, the racing lineup included both a V8+ and a V4+ boat, as well as a V2x and novice 4+ boat.

The water conditions remained flat throughout the event, but fog caused a slight delay at the start for the event, which began with the Women’s V4+ race.  The Raven lineup consisted of coxswain Helen Curley-Swannie (Longmeadow, Mass.), followed by portside rowers Maura Joseph (Holyoke, Mass.) and Hannah May (Pembroke, N.H.), and starboard oars Hannah LaGrassa (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Tessa Berry (Andover, Mass.). Out of seven total teams, the Ravens placed 7th with a finishing time of 27:44.057.

A handful of fresh faces were also featured in the event, as the novice 4+ boat competed to a 4th place finish out of four teams with a time of 29:20.379. Senior returner Meg Stokes (Milford, Conn.) called the shots as the coxswain, with a lineup featuring junior Jenna Parent (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and freshman Sidney Chapman (Gorham, N.H.), Abbie Danitschek (Foxborough, Mass.) and Marisa Salinas (Manchester, Conn.).

The highlight of the Raven performance was the combination effort between junior Jada Fuentes (Lyme, Conn.), and freshman Alexis Massey (Deep River, Conn.), who each raced as a combo in the V2x matchup. The Raven pairing crossed the finish line 3rd out of six team entries with a time 25:31.778, beating out opponents University of New Hampshire, Clark University and Manhattan College.

In the final matchup of the event, the Ravens V8+ boat finished 11th out of 14 total entries with a finishing time of 23:12.568 across a distance of 3.25 miles. The boat roster featured portside rowers Jada Fuentes, Maura Joseph, Abigayle Danitschek and Sidney Chapman while the starboard was crewed by Alexis Massey, Hannah LaGrassa, Tessa Berry and Marisa Salinas. The coxswain for the race was Ali Darling (Unionville, Conn.).

Ravens rowing will return home for their next showcase event on Saturday, November 5th when they will host the Pearly Sprints on Pearly Lake.
