Rowing Opens New Season At Quinsigamond Snake Regatta (Worcester, Mass.)

WORCESTER, Mass. (10/15/22) – The oars officially hit the water for the 2022 fall season as the Franklin Pierce University Rowing team opened their new campaign at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Worcester Massachusetts, racing a pair of V4+ boats in a single race featuring 12 opposing schools.

The Raven’s V4+ “A” boat placed 6th overall in the competition, finishing with a time of 18:02.428 ahead of the 7th University of New Hampshire (18:05.825), 8th Gordon College (18:05.875) and 9th Colby College (19:01.433) A-boats. The boat consisted of senior Meg Shawver (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior Jada Fuentes (Lyme, Conn.) occupying the port side, while junior Hannah LaGrassa (Bladwinville, Mass.) newcomer Alexis Massey (Deep River, Conn.) manned the starboard oars. Senior Helen Curley-Swannie (Longmeadow, Mass.) served as the boat’s coxswain.

The Raven V4+ “B” boat crossed the finish line last in the race, but finished with a 21:14.963 time. The second vessel featured senior Meg Stokes (Milford, Conn.) as the coxswain, along with returners Maura Joseph (Holyoke, Mass) and Hannah May (Pembroke, N.H.) on the port side, and Tessa Barry (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Marisa Salinas (Manchester, Conn.) on the starboard.

Rowing returns to the water for the first day of the Head of the Charles Regatta on Friday, October 21st and will compete through the weekend in Boston, Massachusetts.
