Rowing Finishes 50th, 24th In Two V4+ Races At Head Of The Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (10/24/22) – A week after opening their new season, the Franklin Pierce University rowing team headed south to the annual Head of the Charles Regatta for a three-day event featuring over 50 teams. On two of the three days, the Ravens raced a single V4+ boat in head-to-head matchups.

The Saturday (Day 1) V4+ “A” lineup consisted of Maura Joseph (Holyoke, Mass.), Marisa Salinas (Manchester, Conn.), Hannah May (Pembroke, N.H.) and Tessa Berry (Andover, Mass.) along with coxswain Ali Darling (Unionville, Conn.). The Raven squad finished 50th overall in the race with a time of 23:44, but was also forced to stop at one point due to an opposing boat entering their water in a non-passing area.

On the final day of the event, the Ravens pieced together a V4+ “B” boat featuring the likes of Jada Fuentes (Lyme, Conn.), Alexis Massey (Deep River, Conn.), Meg Shawver (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Hannah LaGrassa (Baldwinville, Mass.), with senior Helen Curley-Swannie (Longmeadow, Mass.) has the coxswain. The Sunday matchup put the Ravens (#24 bow) up against some of the top DI programs in the country. The boat finished with a time of 20:34 while placing 24th in the matchup, ending the weekend on a high note.

Rowing will take another week off before returning to Worcester, Massachusetts for the Wormtown Chase Regatta on Saturday, October 29th.
