Women's Rowing Uses Three Boats on the Merrimac River this Weekend

Novice-four and varsity-eight finish fourth in their respective races

LOWELL, Mass. (April 15, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's rowing team sent three boats into competition this past weekend in a race against Coast Guard, UMass-Lowell and Colby College on the Merrimac River in Lowell, Mass. The Ravens featured a varsity-eight boat, varsity-four boat and a novice-four boat. The eight and novice boats finished in fourth place in their respective races, while the varsity-four placed fifth.

The varsiy-eight boat, which finished in a time of 8:05, featured Samantha Bizon (South Windsor, Conn.), Morgan Miller (Kingston, N.Y.), Jess Whittemore (Auburn, N.H.), Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.), Alexa Demsey (Maidstone, Vt.), Hayley Brown, Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) and Madelene Morrill (Greenville, Pa.). Shannon Dacey (Barrington, N.H.) served as the cox'n of the boat.

Bizon (stroke), Whittemore (three), Pastor (two), Miller (bow) and Dacey (cox'n) engineered the varsity-four boat as it finished in a time of 8:34. 

Demsey (stroke), Brown (three), Morrill (two), Nyzio (bow) and cox'n Erika Hebert (Leominster, Mass.) headed up the novice boat, which recorded a time of 8:54.9.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next weekend when the Ravens compete against UMass-Lowell on the Merrimac River in Lowell, Mass. The race will begin at 8 a.m.
