Franklin Pierce Men’s & Women’s Rowing Competes at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

Women's varsity four places sixth in open division, men's varsity four ninth

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 13, 2008) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's rowing teams competed at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.

Franklin Pierce's women's varsity four placed sixth in the open division, posting a time of 17:53.022. Worcester Polytechnic Institute won the event with a time of 17:10.378 to edge Connecticut College (17:16.360). The Ravens finished ahead of crews from Bowdoin College, Assumption College, Mass Maritime and Tufts University. Rowing for Franklin Pierce was senior Cassandra Ela (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) at stroke, sophomore Mairecait Binienda (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) in the two-seat, sophomore Mary Holland (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) at three-seat and senior Vanessa Leon (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) in the bow, with sophomore Julie Waxman (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's B-crew placed tenth overall with a time of 19:15.846. Rowing for that Ravens boat was sophomore Brigit Arell (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) at stroke, freshman Katie Dougherty (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) in the two-seat, freshman Eric Tomaszewski (Nashua, N.H./Academy of Notre Dame) at three seat and freshman Lesley Cutting (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) in the bow, with junior Kristen Sheridan (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's men's varsity four placed ninth in its open division, posting a time of 17:15.843. Bowdoin won the event with a time of 15:08.985, just edging the University of Massachusetts (15:09.909). Rowing for the Ravens were senior Josh Marker (Lockport, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) at stroke, junior Patrick Brosnan (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely) in the two seat, sophomore Michael Parthum (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) at three seat and freshman Tavis Wolfram (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) in the bow, with junior Alex Edwards (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce is back on the water on Saturday when both men's and women's fours compete in the 44th Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
