Franklin Pierce Battles Amherst in Head-to-Head Races

Ravens WV4, WN4 and MN4's all victorious on the Connecticut River 

RINDGE, N.H. (April 1, 2008) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's rowing teams competed against Amherst College on the Connecticut River this weekend.

Franklin Pierce's women's varsity four and men's and women's novice fours won their head-to-head races against Amherst. The Ravens women's varsity four completed the sprint race with a time of 10:02, against a strong headwind, to edge the Lord Jeffs (10:03).

Rowing for Franklin Pierce were senior Blair Granum (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) at stroke, senior Jessica Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) in the two seat, senior Gwenn Curtis (Falls Village, Conn./Housatonic Valley) at three seat, with freshman Mairecait Binienda (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) in the bow and Christi Farina (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Cultural Arts Center) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's women's novice four posted a time of 9:41 to defeat Amherst A (10:50) and B (12:17) crews. Rowing for the Ravens were freshman Mary Holland (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) at stroke, Binienda in the two seat, freshman Brigit Arell (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) at three seat, with junior Vanessa Leon (Lenox, Mass./Lenox) in the bow and sophomore Alexandra Edwards (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's novice four posted a time of 8:42 to out-pace the Lord Jeffs (9:57). Rowing for the Ravens were freshman Kai Dadian (Saint Louis, Mo./University City) at stroke, sophomore Tim Cardiello (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) in the two seat, freshman Michael Parthum (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) at three seat, with freshman Corey Pinney (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) in the bow and freshman Julie Waxman (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce heads to Worcester, Mass., on Saturday to compete against Clark University, Connecticut College, Simmons College and Amherst on Lake Quinsigamond.
