MANSFIELD, MASS. (1/31/2024) – The Northeast-10 Conference recognized seven outstanding student-athletes from the fall season as Sport Excellence Award winners on Wednesday afternoon, honoring their remarkable achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Among the 108 student-athletes named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference Teams last week, the Sport Excellence Award is given to one top individual from each of the league's seven fall sports. Five different institutions were represented in the announcement.

One of the seven athletes to receive the prestigious award was Franklin Pierce University's standout cross country runner Wondu Summa (Burlington, V.T.). During the fall of 2023, Summa was named USTFCCA East Region Athlete of the Year, Northeast-10 Men's Cross-Country Athlete of the Year and was crowned NCAA Division II East Region and Northeast-10 Champion. While Summa grinded it out on the course, he was also cracking down on the books. A health sciences major, Summa earned a 3.43 GPA through the fall semester.
