Indoor Track Splits Up For Busy Weekend at Boston University, MIT Invitationals

BOSTON, Mass. (2/11/23) – It was another busy weekend for both sides of the Franklin Pierce indoor track and field program, as various members represented Franklin Pierce at both the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational (2/10 & 2/11) and the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational (2/11) meets.

The split-squad weekend rounds out the primary regular season slate for indoor track, with a handful of athletes hunting for spots in the upcoming NCAA National Championship in Virginia Beach. Boston University will host one final "last chance" meet on February 26th.

Junior Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) highlighted the men's performance at Boston University, placing 68th overall out of an astonishing 328 runners in the Men's 800-Meter. With a finishing time of 1:52.56, Walker officially hit NCAA National Championship qualifying standards. Additionally, freshman Lalo Lopez (Naugatuck, Conn.) made his official debut in the Men's 400-Meter, finishing 116th overall with the fourth-fastest time in program history (50.22). From the MIT crowd, senior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) repeated with another new program-record in the Men's Weight Throw, placing 3rd overall with a mark of 14.95 meters

For the women, senior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) highlighted a slurry of top-tier performances, claiming 43rd overall out of a field of 231 racers at Boston University, crossing the finish line with a 56.77 time.

PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – MEN

  • (BU) junior Ryan Walker reached NCAA Championship qualifying standards as the 68th finisher in the Men's 800-Meter (1:52.56)
  • (BU) junior Angel Gonzalez (North Andover, Mass.) finished 48th of 84 in the Men's 60-Meter Dash (7.31)
  • (MIT) sophomore Harrison Pelosi (Gloucester, Mass.) finished 2nd in the Men's 800-Meter (2:05.74)
  • (MIT) junior Connor Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) tied for 10th in the Men's Pole Vault (3.85m)
  • (MIT) senior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) placed 3rd in the Men's Shot Put (14.95m), 2nd in the Men's Weight Throw (16.93m)
  • (MIT) junior Salvatore Lando (Sterling, Mass.) placed 5th in the Men's Shot Put (14.61m)

PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – WOMEN

  • (BU) senior Nyjah Young-Bey placed 43rd of 231 racers in the Women's 400-Meter (56.77)
  • (MIT) senior Saylee Missell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) placed 2nd in the Women's 400-Meter (1:02.18)
  • (BU) senior Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.) claimed 240th in the Women's 800-Meter (2:28.76), (MIT) finished 8th in the Women's 400-Meter (1:06.02).
  • (MIT) senior Alana Thompson (Westhampton, N.J.) finished 2nd in the Women's Mile (5:31.37)
  • (MIT) sophomore Briahna Bouchard finished sixth in the Women's 60-Meter Hurdles (9.89)
  • (MIT) freshman Mia Beaudet (Chadds Ford, Pa.) placed 7th in the Women's 60-Meter Hurdles (10.31)
  • (MIT) freshman Elizabeth Jones (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) claimed 9th in the Women's 60-Meter Hurdles (10.37), 10th in the Women's Pole Vault (3.00m)
  • (MIT) freshman Jennifer Kulick (Goffstown, N.H.) rounded 10th in the women's 60-Meter Hurdles (10.49), 8th in the Women's High Jump (1.48m), 4th in the Women's Triple Jump (10.52m)
  • (MIT) junior Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) placed 6th in the Women's Shot Put (11.49m), 6th in the Women's Weight Throw (13.48m)

 

It will be all-hands on deck for indoor track and field next weekend at the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
