Five Claim Event Wins for Men’s Track & Field in Action at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (February 12, 2022) - The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team was in action on Saturday at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT. It was the final tune-up for the Ravens ahead of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships coming up at the end of the month. Five Ravens picked up individual event wins on the day.

In the 60-meter dash, senior Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) came in fourth with a time of 7.23 seconds. Behind him was sophomore Angel Gonzalez (North Andover, Mass.) in sixth, with a time of 7.25 seconds. Senior Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) took a page out of sophomore Stephen Harris' (Billerica, Mass.) book and claimed first in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.85 seconds. He was followed in a photo finish by sophomore Nathan Rinaldi (Bristol, Conn.), who claimed second with an identical time of 22.85 seconds. Rinaldi also claimed second in the 400 meters, after running a 50.71-second time. Harris turned his attention to the 400 meters this week, and chalked up yet another win, with a run of 49.77 seconds.

Sophomore Thomas Darrah (Thetford, Vt.) claimed victory in the 1000 meters, with a run of 2:36.09, and he was followed by sophomore Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.) in fifth at 2:42.15. In the mile, sophomore Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) took the top spot, after crossing the line in 4:29. Fellow sophomore Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda) was right behind him with a time of 4:30 to take second. It was three Ravens in the top five, as a run of 4:36 allowed senior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) to claim fifth. In the 5k, sophomore Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) took first for his 15:10 time. Graduate student Sebastian Vicary (Ulceby, United Kingdom) was behind him with a time of 15:36 to take second. Fourth place went to freshman Logan Mihelich (Northwood, N.H.), who crossed with a time of 16:03.

The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of junior Ibrahim Ayyash (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.), freshman Cole Cooper (North Hampton, N.H.) and freshman Harrison Pelosi (Gloucester, Mass.) took third with their time of 3:53. The Ravens claimed first in the 4x800-meter relay after a time of 8:21 from a team of Walker, Darrah, McNeice and Outerbridge.

As for the field events, in the shot put, junior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) took fourth for his 15.02-meter heave. He was followed by senior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) in fifth with a 14.98-meter throw. Everidge also took second in the weight throw after throwing 16.06 meters. Harris got up and over 1.90 meters to finish sixth in the high jump.

The Ravens now head into championship season for those who have qualified. The NE10 Championship is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Feb. 24-25, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
