Wondu Summa

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 14, 2021) -- Fittingly for a trip to the Hardware City, freshman Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team picked up the biggest honor of his young collegiate career on Friday. At the first day of the NEICAAA Championships (New England Championships), Summa turned in a second-place finish to earn All-New England plaudits at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Ravens had three participate in the hammer throw in the early afternoon. Sophomore Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) took 17th with a throw of 43.66 meters, junior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) finished 19th with a heave of 41.57 meters, and freshman Sal Lando (Sterling, Mass.) placed 21st with a toss of 31.19 meters.

Out on the track, freshman Nathan Rinaldi (Bristol, R.I.) took part in the 400-meter dash. He finished sixth in the first heat, with a time of 51.86 seconds, which was good for 15th overall.

Next, in the 100-meter dash prelims, freshman Stephen Harris (Billerica, Mass.) assured himself of All-New England honors on Saturday, as he qualified for the final. Harris' time of 11.20 seconds was good for second in the first heat and was the fifth-fastest time of the day overall.

Harris doubled up and ran the 200 as well, where he narrowly missed another All-New England accolade. He ran a 22.16 to finish second in the fourth heat and finish ninth overall. Harris' time was the fastest one to not advance to Saturday's event final. The time currently sits fourth in the East Region, with the season drawing to a close this weekend.

Wrapping things up on Friday, the Ravens entered a pair in the 5000 meters, where Summa had the team's showing of the day. He ran a time of 14:52 to finish second, pick up All-New England honors and move up to fifth in the East Region. Summa was the top Division II finisher in the event. Farther down the ledger, junior Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) took 15th with a time of 15:48.

The NEICAAA Championships wrap up on Saturday in New Britain.
