Bonsaint Shines as Men’s Track & Field Wins SNHU Last Chance Meet

MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 1, 2021) -- It was freshman Brogan Bonsaint (Somersworth, N.H.) who stole the show on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team competed at the SNHU Last Chance Conference Qualifier, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University. The meet was the final chance to post qualifying times for next week's Northeast-10 Conference Championships, and Bonsaint did even more, as he produced an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying throw in the javelin.

Bonsaint's javelin heave checked in at 58.92 meters, which was good enough to win the event my more than 10 meters. The distance currently stands 26th in the country on the season and is Bonsaint's first career NCAA provisional mark.

It was the highlight of a strong day for the Ravens, who piled up 130 points to win the meet. Bentley (104 points) took second, host SNHU (37 points) finished third, and Saint Anselm (36 points) rounded out the four-team field.

Elsewhere, in the 100-meter dash, junior Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) took first for an 11.71-second time. Junior Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) was behind him in second after an 11.75-second race, while freshman Connor Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) claimed third for a 12.30-second finish. In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Sekou Veillard (Davie, Fla.) took the win for his 16.52-second time.

In the 800, freshman Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) took first in a photo finish with a 1:57.20 time. Freshman Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.) was hot on his heels and ran the race in 1:57.26 to take second by less than the blink of an eye. Senior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) placed first in the steeplechase for his 10:37 performance. He was followed by freshman Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.), who took second for his 11:11 finish.

In the 4x100-meter relay, The 'A' team of freshman Angel Gonzalez (North Andover, Mass.), freshman Stephen Harris (Billerica, Mass.), Pezzullo and freshman Nathan Rinaldi (Bristol, R.I.) took first for their 43.64-second finish. Meanwhile, the 4x400 'A' team won as well, with a lineup of freshman Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.), Harris, Veillard and Rinaldi, while the 'B' team of McNeice, junior Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.), freshman Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda) and Summa finished second. The 4x400 squads posted times of 3:27 and 3:32, respectively.

As for the jumpers, Harris finished first in the high jump for his 1.80-meter mark. Nordmann returned to take second in the long jump after a 5.73-meter mark.

Sophomore Victor Da Silva (Shrewsbury, Mass.) claimed victory in the shot put for an 11.78-meter throw. Behind Bonsaint in the javelin was junior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) in second, and senior Von Hayden (Monroe, Conn.) in third with their 48.10-meter and 45.88-meter throws, respectively.

The Ravens head for the NE10 Championships next week on May 6-8. The Conference meet will be hosted by American International College in Springfield, Mass.
