Men’s Track & Field Claims Victory at ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (April 15, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team performed strong on Thursday at the Eastern Connecticut State invitational #2. The Ravens collected 154 points to win the tri-meet, as host Eastern Connecticut State tallied 154 points and New Haven recorded 76.5. Combined with the women's victory at the same meet, Franklin Pierce track & field now has 25 meet wins all-time in program history.

Freshman Stephen Harris (Billerica, Mass.) dominated the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as he took first spot in both after running 11.01 seconds and 22.72 seconds, respectively. In the 200, he was followed by junior Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.), who took second for his 23.90-second time. Jones would return to claim fourth in the 100, after running the race in 11.25 seconds. Freshman Nathan Rinaldi (Bristol, R.I.) claimed third in the 200 for his 24.09-second performance. He would also take third in the 400 for a 52.37-second performance. After a time of 54.73 seconds, senior Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) would claim fourth in the 400. Sophomore Cameron Morton (Foxborough, Mass.) was right behind him, and took fifth place after crossing the line in 55.83 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Ravens would sweep the top five in the 800-meter dash. Junior Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) led the pack, as he came in at a time of 2:07.67 to claim first. Right on his heels was freshman Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.), who took second with a 2:07.96 race, with just over a quarter-second separating the two. Freshmen Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.), Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) and Tad Darrah (Thetford, Vt.) all finished less than a second apart in third through fifth positions. Walker came out on top with a third-place finish for his 2:08.04 performance. Summa took fourth for his 2:08.37 time, and Darrah would take fifth, with a time of 2:08.59.

Fenoff returned to take first in the 1500 after running a time of 4:14.02. Summa also showed, and took second for his 4:14.64, right behind Fenoff. The two were followed by freshman Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda), who claimed third for his 4:15.00 race. In fifth was junior Will Aylward (Peabody, Mass.) with his 4:21.22 time.

In the 5k, Fenoff claimed top spot for the third time after running a 16:42.63. Summa snatched second for his 16:43.90 time. Senior Ryan Ducrow (Amesbury, Mass.) raced in 16:58.14 to claim fourth.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Sekou Veillard (Davie, Fla.) finished first for his 16.82-second time. Freshman Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.) claimed third in the 400-meter hurdles for his 1:40.27 time. He would return to compete in the steeplechase, and took third for his 11:17.43 time. Sophomore Ibrahim Ayyash (Worcester, Mass.) claimed fourth for his performance in the event at 11:36.84. Finally, junior Cullen Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) took fifth for his 11:38.64 time.

In the relays, the Ravens performed well as well. For the 4x100, the team consisting of Harris, freshman Angel Gonzalez (North Andover, Mass.), Rinaldi and Jones claimed second with a time of 43.16 seconds. For the 4x400, Walker, Outerbridge, Summa and Darrah claimed fourth for a 3:34.05 finish. Right behind them was Aylward, junior Kevin McCree (Mansfield, Mass.), Rua and Fenoff, who took fifth for their 3:43.88 time.

Harris came back to claim third in the high jump, as he cleared 1.80 meters. Freshman Connor Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) took top spot in the pole vault, with his mark of 3.81 meters. Junior Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) took fifth in the long jump for a 5.49-meter performance.

In the shot put, junior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) took first for his 15.07-meter mark. He also claimed top spot in the discus for his 41.67-meter mark, along with second in the hammer for a 38.62-meter throw. Sophomore Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) took second in the shotput, with a throw of 14.26 meters. He would claim third in the hammer for a 38.59-meter performance. Freshman Brogan Bonsaint (Somersworth, N.H.) claimed top spot in the javelin for his 53.66-meter throw. Senior Von Hayden (Monroe, Conn.) followed with a 44.41-meter mark to take second.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 20-21, when they host the Teamsgiving Relays-North, at Murdock High School in Winchendon, Mass.
