Ravens Rally Past SNHU in NE10 Semifinal, Advance to Championship Match

FLUSHING, N.Y. (5/3/2025) – The second-seeded Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team came through in a high-stakes battle on Saturday afternoon, taking down third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. With the match tied 3-3, senior Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France) delivered the match-clinching point at No. 3 singles at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens set the tone early by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France) and Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) claimed a 6-4 win at #2 doubles, while the duo of Orlando Guerrero (Pachuca, Mexico) and Hugo Diaz Avila (Barcelona, Spain) secured a 6-3 victory at #3 to lock in the early 1-0 advantage. SNHU took the top flight, as Joe Herin (Tias, Spain) and Noe Martin (Sainte-Agnès, France) fell 6-1.
- In singles, Franklin Pierce earned wins at No. 2, 3, and 6 to secure the match. Martin bounced back in a gritty three-setter at #2 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Hiebel delivered under pressure at #3, coming from behind to earn a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory and seal the semifinal win. Diaz Avila added a crucial point at #6 singles with a composed 7-5, 6-4 win.
- SNHU responded with points at the top flight and in the middle of the lineup. Herin dropped a tough match at #1 singles, 4-6, 4-6, while Ortiz and Guerrero were defeated in straight sets at #4 and #5, respectively.
- With the match hanging in the balance, Hiebel's dominant final two sets lifted the Ravens into the championship round.
