Men’s Tennis Edged by Assumption in Regular Season Finale, 4-3

RINDGE, N.H. (4/25/2025) – In a tightly contested Northeast-10 battle, the Franklin Pierce Ravens men's tennis team came up just short on Friday afternoon, falling 4-3 to Assumption University in their regular season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Ravens were edged in doubles play, as Assumption swept the courts to take the first point of the match. At #1 doubles, graduate students Noe Martin (Sainte-Agnès, France) and Joe Herin (Tias, Spain) took the match, 6-2. The #2 pairing of Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France) and Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) dropped a close 7-5 match, and the #3 team of Hugo Diaz Avila (Barcelona, Spain) and Orlando Guerrero (Pachuco, Mexico) came up short 6-4.

The Ravens responded in singles with a surge of strong performances. Herin was clinical at the top spot, breezing past his opponent 6-4, 7-0 at #1 singles. Ortiz followed with a gritty three-set win at #4 singles (6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1), and Diaz Avila delivered in a dramatic match at #6, pulling out a 6-7(5), 7-5, 7-1 victory.

However, Assumption secured the win by claiming matches at #2, #3, and #5 singles. Martin fought valiantly at #2 but came up just short, 6-4, 5-7, 6-7. Hiebel was edged in three sets at #3 (3-6, 6-4, 0-6), while Guerrero fell at #5 by a 7-6(4), 4-6, 3-6 margin.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:

Franklin Pierce will await seeding for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament, set to begin next week starting Saturday, May 3.
