Men's Tennis Mounts Comeback Versus Merrimack, Finishes Fall With 4-3 Win

RINDGE, N.H. (10/22/22) – To officially close out the fall season, the Franklin Pierce men's tennis team got to work early on a busy Saturday in Rindge, opening the day with a home matchup against Merrimack College, while also ending things on a high note with a 4-3 victory over the Warriors.

Men's tennis claims their third straight win this fall, finishing with a 3-1 overall record versus non-conference opponents with the victory. Merrimack, with the loss, slips to 0-2 on the season.

The match layout required some slight configurations prior to it's start, as neither team participated in No.3 doubles. As such, each team was able to secure a point from the remaining doubles action. The Ravens triumph came from the No.2 spot from seniors Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vermont) and Joshua Arnold (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) by a score of 6-1, defeating Merrimack's Charles Robertson and Pedro De Godoy Mancini.

After two losses in singles to bring the score to 3-1 Merrimack, the same two Raven players were able to repeat their success in singles. The comeback bid began with a victory by Preston Gordon at the No.1 position in two sets, defeating Henrik Lindeman by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad & Tobago) tied things up in the match with a win at No.3 singles, also defeating his opponent in two sets (6-0, 6-3) to place the decision on the final fourth singles matchup.

In the deciding match, Joshua Arnold claimed his second victory of the morning at the No. 4 position after pushing the action into deciding third set (7-5, 5-7, 10-6), snatching the final point of the match and securing the win for the Ravens. No.6 singles was not played due to lack of available players.

Men's tennis will head into hibernation before returning for the spring season, when they will open things up with a Northeast-10 matchup versus Saint Michael's College on Saturday, March 25th.
