Men's Tennis Rolls To 6-1 Victory Over Endicott College

RINDGE, N.H. (10/16/22) – In just their third match of the fall season, as well as the first at home, the Franklin Pierce men's tennis team claimed a solid 6-1 win in a non-conference matchup with Endicott College (CCC) on Sunday afternoon in Rindge.

The win is the second in a row for men's tennis, who inch closer to the conclusion of the fall season with a current 2-1 overall record. Endicott remains winless in their campaign, and fall to 0-3 with the loss.

The Ravens took the lead early after claiming the opening doubles point. Senior Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) teamed with fellow senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad & Tobago) in cruising to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles to kick off the action. At the No. 2 position, seniors Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Joshua Arnold (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) registered an 8-2 win, securing the opening point for the Ravens. Third doubles was not played due to lack of players.

In singles, all five participating Ravens won in straight sets, beginning with consecutive 6-0 wins at No. 5 by senior Paul McLellan (Nairobi, Kenya). The theme of matching set scores continued with a pair of 6-4 set wins at No.1 by Preston Gordon, as well as consecutive 6-3 scores at No.2 by Nkrumah Patrick. Ortiz and Arnold also posted similar results, with each collecting wins at the No.3 and No.4 positions (6-3, 6-2) to close out the afternoon win for Pierce.

Endicott's Aaron Terpko claimed the lone victory for the Gulls at sixth singles by default, once again due to a lack of available players on the Pierce side.

Men's Tennis continues on to their final scheduled match of the fall season on Saturday, October 22nd when they will host Merrimack College at the Franklin Pierce Courts, with first serve at 9:30 a.m.
