Men's Tennis First Round Preview: #5 Franklin Pierce at #4 Saint Michael's

Colchester, Vt. (4/25/22) – The #5 Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team (6-8, 3-4 NE10) will travel to #4 Saint Michael's College (7-9, 2-4 NE10) in the opening round of the NE10 Men's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, April 26th at 1:00 PM.

With six teams entering the NE10 Tournament, the winner of Tuesday afternoon's matchup will advance to the semifinal round and will face top seeded Le Moyne College, who received a bye into round two. The other branch of the bracket features a first-round matchup between #6 Bentley University at #3 Adelphi, who's victor will move on to play #2 Southern New Hampshire University. The semifinal round will be played this coming Thursday, April 28th.

For Franklin Pierce, it is the 8th appearance in the conference tournament in program history, and the first time under first season head coach Alejandro Andres. It is also the first time in program history that these two teams have met in the tournament. The Ravens have appeared in the championship three times in their history, including an appearance last season in a 4-1 loss to Le Moyne.

The two teams have faced each other on one separate occasion this past season, with the Ravens escaping with a narrow 4-3 victory over the Purple Knights. Notable performances in the effort included a 6-4 doubles victory between Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain) and graduate student Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France), as well as a trio of singles wins from Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) and Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain).
