Men's Tennis Goes All In, Blanks Assumption With 7-0 Victory

Worcester, MA (4/13/22) – Men's tennis snagged a much-needed victory on the road Wednesday afternoon, silencing host Assumption College by a finishing score of 7-0 in a mid-week NE10 matchup. It was a clean sweep through singles and doubles rounds for the Ravens, who pick up just their second win in their last ten matches.

Men's tennis snaps a four-game losing streak and improves to 5-8 this season following the triumph. Assumption College moves to 2-8 after the loss, extending their recent skid to eight straight games.

Five out of the six singles matches were finished in only two sets, with senior Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, VT) claiming his second straight victory at fourth singles, winning by set scores of 6-2 and 6-4. In the bottom two singles matches, dominating efforts from Joshua Arnold (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago) and Paul McClellan (Nairobi, Kenya) saw their two set matchups finish with five-point differences, with McClellan shutting out opposer Lucas Caira 6-0 in each.

The Ravens also dominated in all three doubles matchups, with the closest finish of 6-4 coming from first doubles and the tag-team pairing of Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain). At second doubles, Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France) and Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain) played the shut-down game for the Ravens, posting their own 6-0 shutout. Finally, at third doubles, Joshua Arnold joined with Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) to solidify a 6-2 victory, completing the successful afternoon for Franklin Pierce.

Men's Tennis inches closer to their season finale, coming up on Thursday, April 21st at 3:30 PM where they will return home for another NE10 matchup with Stonehill College.
