Men's Tennis Grabs One Point in 4-1 Loss at Adelphi

Oceanside, N.Y. (3/30/22) – It was another tough outing for men's tennis this afternoon, falling by a final score of 4-1 at Adelphi from the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside, New York. The only point in the effort came from a victory at #2 singles for sophomore Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain), which was his eighth singles match win of the season.

Men's Tennis slips to 4-6 on the season, having lost two straight and four out of their last five matchups. Adelphi improves to a 5-6 overall record with the win.

The first set of #2 singles was taken the highest possible winning score of 7-5, with Adelphi's Gabriel Balestero taking the first set win. However, Ivan Bernal recovered in the second and third sets for the Ravens, winning by lopsided scores of 6-3 and 6-1 respectively.

With the victory producing the only Franklin Pierce point on the afternoon, only one other match was played to three sets, which was played between Adelphi's Pietro Sole and Franklin Pierce's Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) at #4 singles. Patrick began with a promising 6-2 win in the opening set, but was met with a momentous response from Sole, who claimed wins in the final two sets, both 6-4 scores. The Panthers claimed the remaining victories in singles, as well as all three doubles matchups.

Men's Tennis will have a chance to bounce back against Bentley University at home next week, with the match beginning at 2:30 P.M E.T.
