Bernal Tabbed NE10 Player of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2021) – Sophomore Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon, for his efforts at the Merrimack Tournament last weekend. The weekly accolade marks the second of Bernal's career.

Bernal posted a 2-1 record in doubles competition, while going 3-0 in singles play, helping the Ravens to a 22-12 overall record on the two-day tournament.

In doubles competition, the sophomore teamed up with graduate student Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France). The pair won 6-4 over Boston University, and 6-2 over Holy Cross. Merrimack gave the duo their only loss, winning 6-4.

Bernal swept his opponents in singles play, defeating Holy Cross' Connor Nelson 6-4, 6-3 in his first match, before going on to defeat Jonah Dickson of Boston University 7-6(3), 7-5. In his final match of the weekend, the Madrid, Spain, native took down Andre Singer of Merrimack 6-4, 7-6(4).

The Crimson and Grey take a trip to Bronx, N.Y., for a match up with Fordham at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts on Sunday, October 10. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
