FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 8, 2021) -- Back in the national tournament for the first time since 2003, the No. 47 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team took to the courts as the fourth seed in the NCAA Championship East Regional on Saturday evening. The Ravens suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of top seed Concordia (N.Y.), on the campus of Queens (N.Y.) College.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce sees its season come to a close at 7-4. With the win, Concordia improves to 13-0, has won 15 matches in a row, and advances to take on third-seeded Le Moyne for the East Region title on Sunday, after the Dolphins upset second seed at host Queens, 4-2.

It took all three doubles matches to decide the doubles point, with Concordia ultimately squeaking it out. Second doubles went in the books first, as senior William Nilsson and junior Jan Godfrey Seno swept away freshman Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain) and graduate student Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France), 6-0. Franklin Pierce answered at first doubles, where graduate student Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) picked up a 6-4 victory over senior Tobias Lentz and junior Jonatan Lundahl.

Third doubles went all the way to a tiebreak before things were decided. The Clippers eventually picked up a 7-6 (2) win and claimed the doubles point as freshman Oskar Irdoja and senior Henry Masters slipped past seniors Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) and Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago).

In singles play, Concordia used a trio of straight-set wins to close things out. At fourth singles, Godfrey Seno cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cladera. At sixth singles, it was a 6-2, 6-3 win for Irdoja over Patrick. Things wrapped up at third singles, where Lundahl bettered Bernal, 6-1, 6-2.
