Men’s Tennis Falls at Merrimack, 9-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 19, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Merrimack.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 5-15 (2-7 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 8-7 (7-0 Northeast-10).

Freshman Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) was the lone Raven to take a set from the Warriors on Tuesday, as he locked horns with Merrimack junior Nick Majewski. Majewski took the first set and Lawrence took the second, but Majewski claimed the tiebreak set to post a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 victory.

Earlier in the day, in doubles play, freshman James Bisazza (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophmore Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) put up the biggest fight for the Ravens among the three doubles contests. The duo ultimately suffered an 8-4 defeat at the hands of Majewski and senior Miguel Belfort.

In all, five different Merrimack players posted wins in both singles and doubles play on Tuesday, led by sophomore Mikhail Belov, who won at the top tier of each. At first doubles, he teamed with fellow sophomore Frank Vega for an 8-2 win, before collecting a 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 23, when they wrap up the season by hosting Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. in Rindge.
