Men’s Tennis Falls at Hartford, 7-0

Ravens wrap up fall season

Brewer WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 20, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on Sunday afternoon, 7-0, by Hartford in non-conference play at Hartford.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-6 (0-4 Northeast-10), while Hartford improves to 4-2. The two teams played under Division I rules, with the three doubles matches combining to decide just one point.

Senior Christopher Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) had the best showing of the day for the Ravens, as he locked horns with Hartford freshman Ryan Lugtu at first singles. Brewer took the first set, 6-4, but was clipped in the second, 7-5. Lugtu was victorious in the third set as well, to post the 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory.

Brewer also put up a fight at first doubles, where he teamed with freshman Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec). The duo held their own before falling, 8-6, to freshmen William Drumwright and Alexander Romaine.

Four Hartford players won in both singles and doubles play on Sunday. Drumwright won at first doubles and second singles, while Lugtu posted victories at first singles and second doubles.

The Ravens concluded the fall portion of their schedule on Sunday and will return to the court in the spring.
