Ravens sweep Yellow Jackets

Brewer RINDGE, N.H. (April 9, 2015) – Senior Christopher Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) was a winner at both first singles and first doubles on Thursday afternoon to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team in a 9-0 win over American International in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 1-8 (1-6 Northeast-10), while AIC falls to 0-6 (0-4 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce led 2-0 before play even started on Thursday, as American International had to default at both third doubles and sixth singles. From there, the Ravens won both remaining doubles matches to take a 4-0 lead into singles play. Brewer and junior Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) teamed at first doubles to post an 8-5 win over AIC senior James Worrall and graduate student Alfie Cleave. At second doubles, junior Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H.) and freshman Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) picked up an 8-1 win over graduate student Timothy Zoma and senior Jason Popek.

The Ravens needed just one singles win to pick up the victory over AIC, and it came quickly, as Brewer rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Worrall at first singles and Viel notched an identical, 6-1, 6-0 win over Zoma at third singles. Meanwhile, freshman Logan Sherwood (Merrimac, Mass.) tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win over freshman Johno May at fifth singles. In the pro set format, Taylor contributed an 8-4 win over Cleaves at second singles and senior Aras Banevicius (Canton, Conn.) came up with an 8-2 win over Popek at fourth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 11, when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 Conference match at noon.
