POMFRET, Conn. (March 11, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0, by Nichols in non-conference, neutral-site play at Strong Field House on the campus of Pomfret School.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-6 (1-5 Northeast-10), while Nichols improves to 4-0 (Commonwealth Coast).

Junior Mark Petrie (Pembroke, Mass.) put up one of the stronger fights of the day for the Ravens, at fourth singles, as he was able to take four games against Nichols freshman Joan Castillo, before suffering a 6-3, 6-1 loss. Earlier in the day, senior Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) and junior Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) hung tight at first doubles, before ultimately falling to junior Brandon Roode and graduate student Justin DeLuca, 8-5.

In all, five different Nichols players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Tuesday, led by DeLuca, who won in the top flights of each. After the aforementioned win at first doubles, he bettered Gilhuly at first singles as well, 6-1, 6-1.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to the court on Sunday, March 30, when they travel to American International for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 11 a.m. in Springfield, Mass.
