Setters rally after doubles play by taking four of six singles matches

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (March 27, 2006) - Pace University took four of six singles matches to post a 5-4 victory over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action on Sunday.

Franklin Pierce carried a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, but could make it stand as Pace rallied with singles wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6. Junior Paul Kosinski (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) was the lone double-winner for Pace as he collected a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Marko Prljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) for the Setters lone doubles victory at No. 2. Junior Diego Palacios (Pleasantville, N.Y./American Embassy) handed Franklin Pierce freshman Dixon Simmons (Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) his first singles loss of the season with a 6-2, 7-5 decision at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Austin Gardella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and freshman Roland Oganyan (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) were both double-winners for Franklin Pierce. Gardella posted a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 decision over Prljevic at No. 3 singles after teaming with Simmons for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. Oganyan registered a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 victory at No. 5 singles after combining with sophomore Ryan Strayer (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Enfield (Conn.)) for an 8-4 triumph at third doubles.

Franklin Pierce (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) is back in action Saturday when it visits Bentley College at 2 p.m. Pace (2-9, 1-5 NE-10) hosts American International College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
