Franklin Pierce Clips River Hawks, 8-1
RINDGE, N.H. (April 17, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team registered its fifth straight Conference victory with an 8-1 win over UMass Lowell this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action this afternoon.
JuniorRicky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over UMass Lowell's Hassan Borhot after teaming up with classmate Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) for an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
Junior Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) improved to a perfect 10-0 in his League singles matches, as he defeated Bill Mearls 6-1, 6-0. Shannon went on to post an 8-0 win at #2 doubles with partner Matt Szpakowski (Cutchougue, N.Y./Mattituck) who recorded a two set win at #3 singles.
Senior Pat Teague (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) recorded an 8-4 win with teammate Ryan Jones (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) at #3 doubles, and then battled it out with Lowell's Brian Petrowicz in a 6-1, 7-5 win at #3 singles.
UMass Lowell's lone win at singles came from Borhot, who secured a 6-3, 6-3 over Hoffner at #1 doubles.
Franklin Pierce (12-10, 8-3 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Bentley College for its final Northeast-10 Conference match of the regular season. UMass Lowell (2-11, 2-10 NE-10) closes out the regular season this afternoon.
