Men’s Soccer: Ravens Settle for Second Consecutive Draw, 1-1 Final at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (09/25/25) -  The No. 2 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens men's soccer team couldn't hold on for the win on the road against the American International College Yellow Jackets, settling for another 1-1 draw in Northeast-10 conference play on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens broke through in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Graduate midfielder Joao Araujo (Madeira, Portugal) sent a cross into the box, then junior forward Guillermo Avendaño (Luanco, Spain) flicked it with his back foot for the finish. The Ravens took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.  

  • The Yellow Jackets countered with a stunner in the 73rd minute. Leo Consoloni fed a pass to Thomas Lafayette and buried it in the right corner of the goal to level the game at one a piece. The Ravens were forced to settle with the 1-1 draw.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Yellow Jackets 10-4.  

  • Karl Vernet (Miami, Fl.) earned the tie (3-0-3) in net for the Ravens, making 1 save.  

  • The Ravens took 11 corner kicks, compared to 0 from the Yellow Jackets.  

  • The Ravens committed 6 fouls compared to 8 fouls from the Yellow Jackets.

The Ravens return home to Sodexo Field on Sunday afternoon (9/29) as they aim for their first win in Northeast-10 conference play against the University of New Haven Chargers. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
