No.1 Men's Soccer Lights Up No.4 Bentley In NE10 Quarterfinal, 7-0

RINDGE, N.H. (10/29/22) – It was a frosty evening at Sodexo Field as the No.1 Franklin Pierce men's soccer team hosted the No.8 Bentley University Falcons in the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship Quarterfinal. Needless to say, the Ravens scored quickly and often in the first-round matchup, pummeling the Falcons 7-0 to advance to the semifinal round.

The win moves the Ravens into the next round with an 18-0-1 (10-0-1 NE10) record, as Bentley's campaign comes to a close with the first-round loss, finishing the year 5-9-3 (4-6-1 NE10) overall.

In the upcoming semifinals, the Ravens will host No.4 Southern New Hampshire University, following their 1-1 (5-3 penalty kicks) win over No.5 Saint Rose.

The Ravens opened the scoring with a goal from Miguel Secades Rodriguez (Langreo, Spain) just 12:37 into the first half. Shortly thereafter, sophomore Braudilio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Portugal) connected for his conference leading 16th goal of the season off a feed from the right corner by Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain), quickly making it a 2-0 game. In the 22nd minute of the half, the Ravens blew the doors open with their third goal of the contest from Younes Addar (Castellon, Spain) who crashed the net off a pass from well outside the box by Vicente Valor Martinez (San Juan, Spain). However, the Ravens refused to let up as the lead would be made 4-0 just over a minute later, as graduate Javier Gutierrez (Asturias, Spain) capitalized on a cross-net pass from Braudilio Rodrigues for his third goal of the season. The Ravens would carry the 4-0 advantage into halftime.

The second half had a similar flavor to the first, as the Ravens made it a 5-0 game just 2:48 into the action with a goal by senior Joao Valente (Averio, Portugal), his second of the season. The evening also featured some career firsts, as senior defender Aitor Cuenca Retuerto (Bilbao, Spain) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career at the 55:10 mark of the second half. Additionally, junior defender Pablo Ablanedo (Gijon, Spain) achieved the same mark with his first collegiate goal, with the assist coming from Joao Valente to cap of the offensive onslaught for the Ravens.

With the win, senior keeper Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec) recorded his career-best 11th shutout of the season with no saves on no shots faced.

The semifinal round between No.1 Franklin Pierce and No.4 Southern New Hampshire is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2nd with the start time to be determined.
