Addar, Men's Soccer Makes It Count In 1-0 Victory At SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. (10/22/2022) - The #1 Franklin Pierce men's soccer team faced-off with in-state rival Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 showdown, resulting in a game where both teams traded chances with continuous back-and-forth action. However, the Ravens made it count late in the contest, scoring the game winner with under 10 minutes to play to claim a 1-0 victory over the Penmen.

With the road win, Franklin Pierce moves to 16-0-1 (9-0-1 NE10), having posted their eighth straight shutout. Southern New Hampshire, with the close loss, falls to 7-5-3 (4-3-3 NE10).

In the first half, the Ravens outshot the Penmen 8-2, with both teams playing well defensively. Both the Penman and the Ravens couldn't get much of anything going offensively early, but the Ravens managed three chances at the net coming off of three corner kick opportunities. Throughout the first half, both teams were also guilty of turnovers, as neither team could string-together good possessions in the offensive zone.

In the second half, the Ravens poured on the shots with an 11-4, leading to a 19-6 advantage to finish the 90 minutes of action. Early in the second half, it looked as if Southern New Hampshire started to gain some ground with some looks at the Raven net, but simply couldn't get past Raven keeper Javier Torres (Benalmadena, Spain), who made a series of crucial saves to keep the game scoreless. Southern New Hampshire picked up a pair yellow cards in the 60th and 86th minutes, providing the Ravens with some valuable offensive zone time toward the end of the second half. Finally, the silence was broken in the 82nd minute of play, as senior forward Younes Addar (Castellon, Spain) netted his ninth goal of the season off a pass from senior defenseman Rodrigo Parafita (Cerceda, Spain) for the 1-0 lead, and eventual final score.

Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Javier Torres took care of the business in his third start this season, playing through the full 90 minutes while picking up his second shutout of the season. Torres, in the effort, made three total saves in the win.

Franklin Pierce has their regular season finale on Tuesday evening against Adelphi University at Sodexo Field, with kickoff at 4 p.m.
