No. 1 Men’s Soccer Claims Second Consecutive NE10 Regular Season Title with 5-0 Win At Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. (10/19/22) – The top-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team scored a trio of goals in the first half of play in a 5-0 victory over Saint Anselm on Wednesday afternoon, claiming their seventh straight shutout along with the Northeast-10 Conference's regular season title for the second consecutive season.

The reigning regular season champion Ravens move to 15-0-1 (8-0-1 NE10) following the road win, as Saint Anselm slips to 7-8 (4-6 NE10) with the loss.

It didn't take long for the Ravens to get on the board, as Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) found the back of the net for his fifth of the season just 1:55 into the first half. In the 18th minute, Braudilio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Portugal) expanded upon the Raven lead off of a penalty kick, netting his conference leading 15th goal to make it a 2-0 game. Minutes later, junior midfielder Vicente Valor Martinez (San Juan, Spain) gave the Ravens their third strike of the half, following a long feed from nearly center field by Miguel Secades Rodrigues (Langreo, Spain), finding Anchel who chipped it over the Hawks goalkeeper. The 3-0 lead would carry over into the second half.

In similar fashion to the first, the Ravens got to work quickly with an early goal to begin the second half. Graduate Marc Lopez (Valencia, Spain) looped in a cross from the right side into a swarm of bodies in-close to the goal, eventually finding Jero Ferrando Ferri (Valencia, Spain) who knifed home a shot from for his second of the season, bringing the Raven advantage to 4-0. The final goal of the evening for Pierce belonged to sophomore midfielder Caleb Williams (Attleboro, Mass.), coming unassisted in the 78th minute for the first of his collegiate career.

Goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec) played the full 90 minutes of action for the Ravens, facing zero shots for his ninth shutout of the season. Through the entire contest, the Ravens finished with a 16-4 shots advantage over the Hawks.

Men's Soccer has one final stop before making their return to Sodexo Field for their final game of the regular season. The Ravens return to the Manchester area on Saturday, October 22nd to clash with in-state rival Southern New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
