Men's Soccer Erupts For Six Goals In First Half, Silences AIC 6-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (10/8/22) – In a rematch of last season's Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship match, the Franklin Pierce University men's netted it's highest single-game goal totals of the season in the first half alone, defeating the American International Yellowjackets on the road by a final score of 6-0.

The Ravens remain unbeaten in regulation, and with their fourth win in a row move to 13-0-1 (6-0-1 NE10) on the season. The AIC Yellowjackets drop to 1-4-5 (0-3-3 NE10) while still searching for their first conference victory of the year, having now lost two straight.

The offensive onslaught for the Ravens began in the 13th minute of the first half, when junior midfielder Vicente Valor Martinez (San Juan, Spain) cashed in off of a rebound from an initial shot by Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain). Nearing the 22nd minute of opening action, senior Younes Addar (Castellon, Spain) connected for Pierce second goal of the game, and would add a second goal of his own just over two minutes later to make it 3-0 for the Ravens.

The goals continued to come in quick succession for the Ravens as late in the 27th minute, sophomore forward Braudilio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Portugal) wasted no time with a cross from off the right post by Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal), extending the lead to 4-0 with his conference leading 14th goal of the year. Entering the final five minutes of the opening half, Javier Gutierrez (Asturias, Spain) netted his second goal of the season in similar fashion to the preceding Rodrigues goal, making quick work of a centering pass from the right side, once again by Prego for his second assist of the match. To complete the first half offensive eruption, Joao Valente (Averio, Portugal) send a long pass to the far post to find graduate Francisco Javier Llamas (Alicante, Spain), finalizing the 6-0 score in the final minute of the first half.

Through both halves, the Ravens finished the game with a 36-6 shots advantage over the Yellowjackets, their highest mark of the season as a team.

In his third start of the season, senior keeper Javier Torres (Benalmadena, Spain) played the full 90 minutes of action for the Ravens, turning away all five shots faced for his third win of the season.

Men's soccer will take a week before their next matchup on Saturday, October 15th where they will return home to Sodexo Field to take on the Assumption University Greyhounds for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
