RINDGE, N.H. (November 10, 2022) -- Freshman Jared Rimmer found a timely moment for his first collegiate goal on Thursday night. His 94th-minute marker stood as the game-winner for eighth-seeded and No. 21 nationally ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship, hosted by Franklin Pierce University. The Falcons picked up a 2-1 (2 OT) win over ninth-seeded Saint Rose at Sodexo Field.

With the win, Notre Dame improves to 16-4-2. Saint Rose, which was playing the inaugural NCAA Championship game in program history, sees its season come to a close at 9-5-4.

Notre Dame advances to the second round of Super Region 1 play, where the Falcons will meet top seed and No. 1 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce (20-0-1) at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Notre Dame picked up the game-winner early in the first overtime session, in the 94th minute. Sophomore Taylor Dyson led a rush ahead from the midfield and fed the ball to senior Ned Dry heading into the penalty area. Dry laid the ball back to freshman Jared Rimmer, who drilled his first collegiate goal into the upper reaches of the net from 15 yards out.

Earlier in the day, the two teams traded second-half penalty-kick goals. In the 56th minute, Saint Rose graduate student Andrew Lule earned a penalty, which senior Hilmar Halldorsson put into the lower-right corner for his 12th of the year. In the 65th minute, sophomore Ailton Fagner Silva drew a penalty to answer for Notre Dame, and fellow sophomore Marcus Vinicius Pereira put his third of the campaign into the lower-left.

Junior Pedro Alves (13-3-2) made five saves against six shots to pick up the win in front of the Notre Dame net. Fellow junior Tomas Rozman (8-3-3) stopped eight of 10 shots in defeat.
