No. 1 Men's Soccer Remains Perfect with 5-1 Win Against Bentley to Improve to 13-0-0

RINDGE, N.H. (October 16, 2021) – Freshman Braudilio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Portugal) scored two goals to help lift the No. 1 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer program to a 5-1 triumph over Bentley University on Saturday evening at Sodexo Field.

The Ravens, still undefeated, improve to a 13-0-0 (8-0-0 Northeast-10) record on the season, while the Falcons drop to 3-8-0 (1-6-0 NE10). FPU has outscored the opposition 40-4 so far this year.

After a few shots from Franklin Pierce in the first half, Rodrigues opened the scoring at the 30:23 mark, aiding the Ravens to a 1-0 lead. Two minutes and 19 seconds later Bentley's Chad Meyers knotted the game up at one apiece. In the 35th minute, graduate student Miguel Angel Pastor Gutierrez (Valencia, Spain) had an opportunity to put FPU up on a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Markus Foehr of Bentley made the save. The Ravens and Falcons closed out the half trading one shot each.

In the second half, graduate student Antonio Santos Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) corralled a pass across from fellow classmate Pedro Juan Vicente (Elche, Spain), before getting a shot off that found its way to the back of the net in the 54th minute. At the 63:37-mark, graduate student Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) netted a goal to make it a 3-1 contest. Graduate student Javier Nemesio García (Alacuas, Spain) headed the ball in front of the box that found its way over to Cervera Anchel. Cervera Anchel bicycle kicked the ball to the top left corner of the net.

Nemesio García tallied his own goal in the 71st minute after collecting a pass from Cervera Anchel to make it a 4-1 game. Rodrigues capped the scoring off, notching his second goal of the match after receiving a pass from senior Yanai Sayag (Yuvalim, Israel).

Junior goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec) earned the win, making two saves on three shots faced and improving to 10-0-0 on the season. Foehr drew the loss after saving four shots on nine faced.   

The Crimson and Grey outshot the Falcons 14-3, as Cervera Anchel led the team with four shots, all on target. The Ravens also recorded seven corner kicks on the day.    

The Ravens travel to West Haven, Conn., to take on NE10 foe New Haven on Tuesday, October 19, for a 4 p.m. contest.
