No. 2 Men's Soccer Moves to 7-0-0 with 2-0 Win at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y, (September 25, 2021) – The No. 2 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce men's soccer team recorded its sixth shutout of the season after defeating the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights, 2-0, on Saturday evening at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Ravens are now 7-0-0 overall with a 3-0-0 record in Northeast-10 conference play, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-3-1 on the year, including a 1-1-0 conference record.

Franklin Pierce and Saint Rose traded a few shots to start off the first half before a penalty went the Ravens way. Freshman Vicente Valor Martinez (San Juan, Spain) booted the ball into the lower right corner of the net at the 12:48 mark to give the Crimson and Grey a 1-0 lead, marking his second goal of the season. FPU took two more shots in the half that were corralled by Saint Rose's goalkeeper Ryan Henning.

Senior Marco Valero (Alicante, Spain) extended the Ravens lead to 2-0, after graduate student Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) crossed the ball out in front, deep from the left sideline, allowing Valero to net his second goal of the year off one touch in the 85th minute of the contest. Franklin Pierce had one more chance to score in the 88th minute, but Henning made the save to close out the game.

Collecting his fourth shutout on the year, junior goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec) earned the win, improving to 5-0 this season. Henning took the loss, registering three saves on five shots faced and moving his overall record to 2-3.

The Crimson and Grey outshot the Golden Knights, 13-5, which included a team-leading three shots from Valero with two on target. Graduate students Carlos Ferrando Felis (Tavernes de la Valldigna, Spain), Antonio Santos Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) and Pedro Juan Vicente (Elche, Spain) all tallied two shots apiece, with Vicente's both on goal.

The Ravens host Le Moyne on Tuesday, September 28, at Sodexo Field. The match is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
