WATERBURY, Conn. (September 14, 2021) – The No. 3 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer program won its fourth consecutive game to open the season after defeating Post, 2-1, on Tuesday evening at LaMoy Field.

The Crimson and Grey capitalized on an opportunity early, as graduate student Carlos Ferrando Felis (Tavernes de la Valldigna, Spain) netted the first goal of the contest, and his first of the season, at the 7:40 mark. Senior Marco Valero (Alicante, Spain) booted the ball out in front from the corner kick, allowing Ferrando Felis to take a header shot, redirecting the ball to the bottom right of the Eagles' goalkeeper, Soren Jenson.

Franklin Pierce had a few more opportunities in the first half after graduate students Pedro Juan Vicente (Elche, Spain) and Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) had one shot apiece on goal that were both saved by Jenson. The Ravens held Post to only two shots in the half, including a shot that was saved by junior goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec).

Not long into the second half of the contest, FPU was able to make it 2-0 when Cervera Anchel registered his first career goal in the 58th-minute. Graduate student Antonio Santos Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) passed the ball up along the far side of the field to Cervera Anchel before the Chiva, Spain, native dribbled it into the 18-yard box, chipping the ball over Jenson who came out to try to make the save. Alexander Zecca of Post cut the deficit to 2-1 with a late goal at the 89:41 mark of the game, the first goal surrendered by the Ravens defense all season.

Maniatis got the win, tallying one save on two shots faced and improving his record to 3-0 on the year, while Jenson took the loss, recording four saves on six shots faced and moving his overall record to 0-1-1.

The Ravens outshot the Eagles 11-4, with Ferrando Felis and Cervera Anchel totaling two shots each. FPU also registered five corner kicks in the match.

Franklin Pierce plays host to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, September 18, at Sodexo Field. The contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start time.
