MANCHESTER, N.H.  (October 9, 2019) – Fresh off a 4-0 shutout of former league leader Assumption College, the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team continued their winning ways on Wednesday afternoon coasting to a 3-0 shutout of Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College. The win moves the Ravens to 6-2-1 overall and 4-1 in the NE10 while the Hawks stumble to 6-4, 2-4 NE10.

Over the past five games, all conference contests, the crimson and grey have gone 4-1 (three shutout wins) and have scored 11 goals and have given up only three. Their 11 goals scored is the third most scored by league teams in conference showdowns and their three goals against is by far the lowest. FPU's defensive backline has been stifling opponents all year allowing only six goals, the least amount in the NE10.

Senior netminder Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) drew the start in the cage for the third time this year and collected his second shutout, the 14th of his career stopping three shots improving his win-loss record to 2-0. Jacob Rostkowski was in net for the hosts and played only one half making two saves in 45 minutes of play. Brian Underhill came on in relief and knocked away two shot attempts as well.

As a team, the Ravens held the edge in shots (17-to-7) and corner kicks (8-to-3) over their opponents. They were also the more physical team recording 22 fouls and two yellow cards.

The Ravens struck for the match opening goal in the 37th minute. Graduate midfielder Javier García Borrás (Alzira, Spain) took a corner kick and lofted it to the box. The ball found the head of junior forward Antonio Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) who promptly headed the corner kick home for the early 1-0 lead.

Ferreira was the Ravens catalyst three minutes later as he fed teammate Marc Forner (Silla, Spain) for the give a go chance in space. Forner was set up on the left post and had a one-on-one with the keeper and he buried the shot attempt into the lower right of the net.

Minutes into the second stanza, junior defender Cristobal Andreu (Castellón de la Plana, Spain) came up huge on the defensive side when he preserved the shutout by sliding across the box to kick the ball out of the Hawks attacking zone. In the 71st minute, Stefan Lohberger (Schoellnach, Germany) notched his eighth goal of the campaign, which paces Pierce and ranks second in the Northeast-10 to cap the Raven win. His tally was assisted by team captain Niklas Laudahn (Olfen, Germany) who set a new career-high with his third helper of the season.

The Ravens bring their potent offense and ferocious defense on the road Saturday when they head to Southern Connecticut State University for a 4:00 p.m. conference showdown.
