Preber, #20 Franklin Pierce Upend Bentley 3-1

RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2016) – Graduate Student Marius Preber (Jessheim, Norway) scored two goals and added an assist as the no. 20 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley 3-1 Wednesday evening at Sodexo Field. With the win, the Crimson and Grey move to 9-3, 7-3 NE-10 and the setback drops the Falcons to 1-10-2, 1-8-1 NE-10.

Preber's multi-score game was his third of the season and gives him a career-high single season total of 10 goals. His 10 markers currently rank him third in the conference and he stands fourth in points (21) as well.

The team captain's first goal of the game came only 1:14 into the contest as teammate Jacob Blixt (Borrby, Sweden) kicked the ball from the right side and Preber knocked a one timer in off the Falcons goalie. 14 minutes later the duo struck again as the Ravens defense held strong which led to a fast break chance where Preber and Blixit played a little give and go which resulted in Preber's shot chipping right over the goaltenders head.

Bentley closed the gap to 2-1 as Michael Baron took a free kick, lofted the ball into the box that deflected off Sean Sullivan's foot and in past Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) for his fourth score of the season.

The goal barrage continued when Ravens senior defender Casey Schehl (Bedford, N.H.) tallied his second career goal he rifled in a cross from Preber from the left slot a minute later.

Four combined goals were scored during the opening 20 minutes of play, but both sides' offenses were silent for the remainder of the match. Franklin Pierce held the advantage in shots (14-to-7) and corner kicks (8-to-2) over the visitors.

Jadel Poon-Lewis moved to 9-3 with the victory as he made one save in 69:20. He was relieved by Aidan Abolfazli (Worcester, Mass.) and the senior netminder stopped one shot in the final 20:40 of regulation.

The Ravens head out on the road to Saint Rose on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. conference contest with the Golden Knights.
